Ann Arbor Festival of Song Co-Directors
Kevin J. Bylsma and Jane Schoonmaker Rodgers have been musical collaborators since 1990, when they were wide-eyed, apple-cheeked adjunct faculty members at Adrian College. It was in 1994 that they founded the annual Art Fair Song Fest, which eventually gave birth to its own parent organization, The Ann Arbor Festival of Song, presenting offerings of art song and vocal chamber music..
As partners Kevin and Jane have explored a broad range of song literature. Among their credits as a performing duo are American Composers' Alliance Festival of American Music (NYC), Cleveland Art Song Festival, The Society for New Music, Pro Musica of Detroit, the Camphill Village in Copake, NY, and Civic Morning Musicals of Syracuse, NY.
Kevin J. Bylsma's work has taken him in the past few years to Venice, Paris, Eastern Europe, New York, and California, among other exciting destinations all over North America. Recent collaborations include several recitals with Irina Mishura and Michelle DeYoung, and accompanying masterclasses of Dianne Soviero and Marilyn Horne. His music directing and coaching credits include Ann Baltz' OperaWorks in Northridge, California, Toledo Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, OPERA!Lenawee, Papagena Opera Company, University of Michigan, and Bowling Green State University. He has also served the Toledo, Adrian, and Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestras as principal keyboardist, and for the past sixteen years has been assistant organist at the historicMariners' Church of Detroit.
